The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.
Intuition. Creativity. Authenticity. Three very important words in my life. I love when I can add a fourth to the list – career. Having a career in which I rely on my intuition, use my creativity, and am authentic in my work is the ultimate happiness for me; and also what I have been working toward in my art career. My paintings, publishing my books, and writing my blog all bring me to those three words.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. ~Albert Einstein
I’ve come to a new place of understanding in my art career and that is – don’t shut off any one of the three! I’m an intuitive painter which means my work is deeply impacted by my life experiences, books I read, and people I spend time with. However when I get in my studio, sometimes I find me shutting myself down with the rational part of my brain saying things like: “that’s enough paintings of elephants, let them go, move on” I should ignore that side of my brain and listen closely to my intuition. Since I paint from my soul, or intuitively, I need to let the message just keep coming until its all out. Turn that rational part of my brain off and pay keen attention to my intuition.
Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. ~Steve Jobs
Recently I have had some wonderful new experiences and met some great new friends. Attending Full Moon Fire Ceremonies, Despacho Ceremony Blessing of the Earth with Don Wilson, a visiting Peruvian Shaman, just to name a couple. Its exciting to experience new and different things and my paintings are showing these new experiences and friends at work in my life. So there I was working along in my studio, painting one canvas after another, some trees, some women, some animals, some women with trees, but always with a full moon as a strong energetic feature in each painting. At one point I heard that little rational voice say “enough moons already Shannon”. But this time I chose to ignore it, and I kept painting, trusting my intuitive guide. What I’ve ended up with is a wonderful body of work; each painting different but related through the full moon. This turned into a great opportunity to create a show! I was already booked to be a featured artist for Last Friday Art Walk in Hillsborough, at the Carolina Wellness Institute so my intuition had led me right where I needed to be. I’ve simply used this wonderful theme to create my upcoming show Mystical, Magical, Moon.

Its going to be really fun to hang this show, I can’t wait to feel the vibration of a room packed with full moon energy. There is one exception – one canvas representing the New Moon. (or as I like to say no moon) I was inspired to write a poem, and realized it truly ties all of these paintings together. I’m so excited for this show, and as I’m working on creating a frame to hang the poem among the paintings it hit me; I’m getting to do exactly what I love to do! Using my own intuition, creativity, and authenticity to produce works to share with people, hopefully positively inspire people, or emotionally impact the wonderful people who come to see my show. So if you are somewhat local and can make it this month for Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk, please come see me at Carolina Wellness Institute 121 West Margaret Lane, Hillsborough right next to the public library and parking deck. Friday May 27th 6-9 pm. I’ve prepared some art greeting cards and magnets from a few of the images so if you so choose you can take a bit of moon energy home with you!
